How it all started

I started my radio journey in 2003. I was doing a pre nursing course at Glenrothes college in 2002 but after a bad experience as an auxiliary nurse, I realised that I couldn’t do the job. (Much respect to all axillary nurses and NHS staff for the amazing job you do) I finished the course and decided to do something fun and creative so I swapped my course to NC Media Productions. The course covered a wide range of classes. My favourites were drama and radio. That first radio class changed my life. The moment I walked into that studio, I fell in love. Its a magical place. I immediately contacted VRN, Kirkcaldy’s hospital radio station. Where I was, I got my first chance to broadcast, and I will be eternally grateful. I loved working at VRN The highlight was doing a Saturday morning show , as well as many other shows and we had great Banter in the station and it was a fantastic place to cut my teeth. I did HNC in Radio Broadcasting the next year. I wanted to be the next John Peel, getting new music to a new audience and helping musicians live their dreams. I’m not famous and I don’t get paid but I am living the first part of my dream. Thanks to you I live that everyday. I have always loved music and was given a hand me down record player and my aunts records. Mostly glam rock. I would listen to these all day everyday. My favourite was Devil gate drive and bad bad boys from Nazareth. I listen to all music but obviously rock is my favourite. In 2006 I was invited down to the Edinburgh Fringe by my friend and class mate Ewan. Unbeknownst to me he set me up on an interview without telling me. So it’s the day I get my new flat and I’ve been out all day and I genuinely look like a tramp. I was in awe as there was comedians everywhere. After a while the bosses Dave and John joined us for a drink. So I started my usual radio geek talk. Fast forward and I was invited to come back in 2007, I worked there till it disbanded after the 2008 fringe. It was one of the best experiences of my life. And I love Ewan for doing that. He wanted them to meet the real me and get my passion. In 2007 I started a psychology degree but changed to creative sound production at Abertay after first year. Again another amazing experience. I graduated in 2010. I concentrated on family until I joined The Abbey Theatre club in 2013. I started in costumes until i was brought on stage as it was my birthday, again I fell in love with it, so I did about 9 shows in 2 & ½ years. My favourite was Spamalot. Fast forward to the 15th of Sept 2017, when I did my first show for Mearns FM. I started doing Friday drive and a few other shows when needed. I got the courage to ask the boss if I could do a rock show. I’ve moved slots a few time but we finally found a home on a Sunday. In summer 2023 we increased my show from 2 hours to 4 giving me lots of time to develop the show and it’s always a work in process. I am proud that I took part of the industry panel for Rock Con Edinburgh in March 2024. Which was very exciting. In May 2024 I started a new show called “UNdiscovered” on stirling community radio.
